The uOttawa men's hockey team improved their U SPORTS regular season record to 3-1 this past weekend with back-to-back wins against the Queen's Gaels and the RMC Paladins.
The Gee-Gees Kingston Road swing began with a match against the Gaels, who were searching for their first home win and OUA win of the season.
Both teams held each other scoreless for the first 30 minutes of the game, until a barrage of goals within half a minute of play gave the Gaels a 2-1 lead over the Gee-Gees. Justin McRae scored for uOttawa, his first of the season.
Eighteen minutes would go by in the third period until Charles-Antoine Roy would score unassisted to tie the game and send it to overtime.
The Gee-Gees wasted no time in extra time, scoring in the first minute of play and sealing their first road win of the season. Grayson Ladd scored the go-ahead goal for uOttawa, his first of the season as well.
Jean-Philippe Tourigy, goaltender for the Gee-Gees, kept the visiting team in the mix by turning away 21 saves on the day.
Saturday saw the Gee-Gees offense come to full strength against RMC, defeating the Paladins in 9-2 fashion. Ottawa was led by second year player Mathieu Desgagnés, who tallied a hat trick and assist in the game.
The Gee-Gees took charge of the game early on, with goals coming from Desgagnés and Max Grondin in the first 10 minutes of action.
Ottawa's offensive exploded in the second period, turning their 2-0 lead into a 7-1 lead within nine minutes of action. Desgagnés would pot two in the opposing net, while Tommy Bouchard, Nicolas Ouellet and Keenan MacIsaac would each tally as well.
Charles-Antoine Roy and Anthony Poulin scored uOttawa's eighth and ninth, capping off their largest margin win of the season thus far.
Goaltender Anand Oberoi would reject 24 of 26 shots in the game.
Six Gee-Gees recorded multiple points against the Paladins, with more than half the players on the roster tallying at least one point.
uOttawa looks to end UQTR's win streak of 4 games and hand the Patriots their first loss of the season (Oct. 26). The Gee-Gees are 2-3 versus UQTR in their last 5 matchups. uOttawa's next home game is Friday, Oct. 28 against RMC. Tickets are on sale at tickets.geegees.ca.
