The Gee-Gees women's basketball team split their weekend of games at Montpetit Hall with matchups on Friday and Saturday against Waterloo and Laurier.
In a closely contested matchup on Friday, Waterloo came away with a 60-52 win, handing Ottawa their third loss of the regular season. Bouncing back from the prior night, the Gee-Gees cruised to an 80-42 win against Laurier on Saturday afternoon.
On Friday, Ariane Saumure led the Gee-Gees with 12 points to go along with four steals. Natsuki Szczokin added 11 points, five assists, and seven rebounds, while Allie McCarthy and Emily Payne each contributed 12 points, with Payne securing a double-double with 11 rebounds.
The following night, Emily Payne led Ottawa with an outstanding performance, scoring 20 points, while securing an impressive 14 rebounds. Szczokin contributed 13 points, while first-year forward Victoria Brideau impressed with a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench.
The Gee-Gees shot an impressive 42.7% from the field, while getting 33 of their points off 24 Laurier turnovers.
After the weekend, the Gee-Gees record sits at 14-3 in third place in the OUA East with key matchups with both Carleton and Queen's still on the horizon.
