Carleton's three-peat quest still alive with win over Bishop's
The No. 3-seeded Carleton Ravens cruised into the national semifinals with a 71-44 win over the No.6-seeded Bishop's Gaiters in the second quarterfinal of the INDOCHINO U SPORTS Women's Final 8. The Ravens' win continues their chase for a third consecutive national title.
Carleton put the first points on the board in the game and had extended their lead going into the half up 34-20. A strong defensive effort by the RSEQ champion Gaiters held Carleton to under 40 points until halfway through the 3rd quarter but the final result was never really in doubt.
Ottawa product Teresa Donato and fifth-year senior Dorcas Buisa of Gatineau, Que., led the Ravens putting up 20 and 17 points respectively. Tatyanna Burke also had strong showing netting 15 points while Abany Deng nabbed 10 rebounds.
The Gaiters were lead by guard Eve Atchampone's 11 points, in their first appearance in the national tournament since 2004. RSEQ Player of the Year Victoria Gauna put up 7 points and 12 rebounds, while Laurie Lafleur and Shaylan Greaves each added 7 points in the losing effort.
In upcoming action, Carleton will meet their longtime rival the Ottawa Gee-Gees in the first semi-final on Saturday at 6 p.m. (Pacific). Bishop's will next be on the floor against Laval in a rematch of the RSEQ final at the first consolation game on Friday at 5 p.m (Pacific).
