
Montreal upsets Alberta in sweep, advances to first final since 2008
Third-year Milicia Djordjevic had 13 kills and five aces as the No. 4 Montreal Carabins stunned the No. 1 Alberta Pandas 3-0 in straight sets (25-23, 25-22, 27-25) in the second semifinal of the 2025 U SPORTS Women's Volleyball Championship at the Investors Group Athletic Centre in Winnipeg
Florence Cloutier added 10 kills and eight digs, Ilona Millan racked up 14 digs and Sarah McGlashan also had 11, while Julia Lanthier clocked a .556 efficiency for the Carabins, who advanced to the national championship match for just the second time in program history and first since 2008.
Abby Guezen had 10 kills and Laila Johnston tallied nine, while Misha Hameed registered nine digs and Justine Kolody had 31 assists for the Pandas, who came into the match riding a 21-game win streak, having not lost since dropping their first three games of the season back in the fall.
Despite the loss, Alberta recorded a .250 hitting percentage in the match, compared to Montreal's .214
With the win, Montreal advances to play the host and No.3 Manitoba in the championship on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT, while Alberta takes on UBC for bronze in a rematch of the CW Final at 4 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. CT.
