Rouge et Or outlast Bishop’s in consolation clash
VANCOUVER – A 15-point performance from Léa-Sophie Verret led the No. 7 seeded Laval Rouge et Or to a 63-61 win over the No. 6 Bishop's Gaiters in a consolation game at the 2025 INDOCHINO U SPORTS Women's Final 8 at the War Memorial Gym, Friday. The fourth-year guard also had eight assists as the Rouge et Or avenged their 56-50 home loss to Bishop's in the RSEQ final two weeks ago.
The Gaiters had a dream start, scoring the game's first 12 points and led 21-10 after the first quarter. However, Laval started to chip away late in the second quarter and a three-pointer by Verret at the halftime buzzer cut the Gaiters margin to 35-29 heading into the break. A layup by Jennifer Louis tied the game at 35-35 early in the third and the Rouge et Or took their first lead a minute later on a three-pointer by Sabrine Khelifi. The Rouge et Or held the Gaiters to just nine points in the third quarter and led 46-44 after three quarters. The Gaiters retook the lead in the fourth quarter, leading 61-57 with 2:47 to go, but were held off the scoreboard the rest of the way, as Laval scored six unanswered points for the win.
The only other Laval player in double figures was Rosemarie Dumont, who had 11 points. For Bishop's, Victoria Gauna had a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds in what is likely her final game as a Gaiter. Laurie Lafleur was the only other Gaiter in double figures, with 12 points.
The Gaiters, who came into the tournament with their first Quebec conference championship since 2004, end their season with a 15-14 overall record (11-5 RSEQ). The Rouge et Or advance to Saturday's fifth-place game, where they will play the Alberta Pandas at 3 p.m. (Pacific) in the War Memorial Gym.
