Â
Playing spoilers on the Hawks homecoming weekend, Windsor moves to 1-4 on the season while Laurier falls to 1-3. The Lancers will now host the McMaster Marauders on their own Alumni Weekend next Saturday at 1:00pm at Alumni Field.
Â
The Lancers and Hawks have a history of tight, close games and Saturday was no different as the lead changed eight times throughout the contest. After conceding a safety to Laurier early in the game,
Anthony Malandruccolo kicked his first of three field goals to put the Lancers up 3-2 seven minutes into the contest.
Â
On the final play of the first quarter, fourth year running back
Tarrence Crawford ran in a 1-yard touchdown to put the Blue & Gold up 10-7 heading into the second en route to a 13-12 lead at the half.
Â
The teams continued to trade field goals throughout the second half. In the end, an unnecessary roughness penalty for the Hawks set up Windsor on Laurier's 1-yard line. Crawford proceeded to punch the ball into the endzone on the next play to give his team a 22-18 lead, a scoreline that would hold up over the final five minutes of the game.
Â
Crawford finished the game with 59 yards on the ground and two scores to pace the Lancers offensively. Rookie quarterback
Liam Putt earned his first career win as he completed 9-of-26 passes for 148 yards while also rushing three times for 35 yards.
Â
Defensively,
Matt Chamberlain of Leamington, ON, led his squad with 10.5 tackles while Kellen Leclair of Windsor, Ont., had 2.5 sacks.
