Sea-Hawks Women’s BBall Back on the Hardwood

The Memorial Sea-Hawks (5-3) will take to the hardwood for the first time in nearly three months, when they host the St. FX X-Women (2-7) for a pair of games this weekend.

The Sea-Hawks enjoyed a great start to the season, capturing wins in 5 of their first 8 games, finding themselves firmly in the playoff picture. Setting the pace in the first-half of the season was rookie guard Rebecca Ekstrom. Her 16.1 points-per-game lead the Sea-Hawks, and she has been one of the premier three-point shooters in the AUS, averaging a conference best 2.9 per-game. The Sea-Hawks are also paced by guard Alana Short, the team's leader in minutes-per-game (30.8), rebounds-per-game (8.5) and places second on the team in points-per-game (15.5). Led by this duo, among other great efforts from contributing players, the Sea-Hawks have been able to jump out to an enviable start.

The X-Women come into this weekend looking to improve upon their first half of the season by getting off to a strong start this weekend. X-Women senior guard Kimberly Kingsbury has enjoyed a great season so far, averaging a team-leading 15.1 points-per-game and 8.9 rebounds-per-game, most of the offence run by the X-Women goes through Kingsbury. Providing a great secondary option to Kingsbury, freshman guard Tahmala Thorpe ranks second among StFX players in points with 11.7 per-game. Look out for this duo to do some damage this weekend for the X-Women.

The opening game of this weekend series will take place at the Memorial Fieldhouse on Friday, February 18th at 6:30 PM, with the following game starting at 1:00 PM on Saturday.
