2018 AUS Women's Volleyball Championship Preview

The Matches

Memorial University will be hosting the 2018 AUS Women's Volleyball Championship from March 2nd – 3rd as four teams will be vying to be crowned as the AUS Champion. The action will see second ranked Saint Mary's Huskies against the Acadia Axewomen (March 2nd 4:30 PM NST) and the home town Sea-Hawks squaring off against first ranked Dalhousie Tigers (March 2nd 7:00 PM NST). The final will take place on March 3rd (7:00 PM NST). Coverage of all games will be provided online through AUStv.ca.

Previous Matchups

Regular season action between the Huskies and the Axewomen saw both teams split two games each. The Huskies and the Axewomen finished the regular season at a stalemate with both teams accumulating 28 points after 14 wins and 6 losses. On the other hand, the Tigers took the edge taking all four games against the Sea-Hawks this season. The Sea-Hawks clinched the last spot giving access to the post-season with 16 points overall after recording 8 wins and 12 losses. The Sea-Hawks will try to rally with their home crowd behind as they try to prevail against the Tigers.

Players to Watch

Lucy Glen-Carter (Acadia Axewomen) - The Axewomen's outside hitter is second in kills (205) and is fourth in points per set (3.6). The Axewomen will rely on her in their offensive endeavors.

Erin Smith (Saint Mary's Huskies) – Smith is second in both kills per set (3.00) and hitting percentage (.325). 

Alison Poynter (Memorial) – Poynter is first in the league in both assists (607) and service aces (37). Poynter is second as well in service aces per set (0.49). 

Julie Moore (Tigers) - Moore has arguable been the strongest offensive force in the league. She is first in kills (228), kills per set (3.68), points (270.5) and points per set (4.4).

The winner of the tournament will advance 2018 U SPORTS Women's Volleyball Championship being hosted by Université Laval in Quebec City, Que., March 16-18.
